Terms of use

Effective

These terms apply to the Country Card app for iOS and Android and to this website. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

On iOS, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where the two conflict, Apple’s agreement takes precedence for the iOS app.

What Country Card is

Country Card gathers travel information about countries into one place: electrical plugs, currency and exchange rates, local time, emergency numbers, visa rules for your passport, entry health requirements, travel advisories, your embassy, health advice, tap water, driving side, mobile connectivity, LGBTQ+ legal status, public holidays, climate and common phrases. The information comes from government publications, open datasets and other public sources, which are listed in the app under Settings › Sources & licences.

The information is a starting point, not advice

Country Card is provided for general information only. It is not legal, medical, immigration, safety or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for checking with the authorities that decide these things.

  • Visa and other entry rules, including how long your passport must remain valid, change without notice and can depend on your circumstances, the purpose of your trip and how you arrive. Confirm them with the destination’s embassy or official immigration service before you travel.
  • Health requirements are drawn from public health publications and may lag behind changes. Talk to a travel health professional about vaccinations and medication.
  • Travel advisories are republished from the Government of Canada and reflect that government’s assessment. Your own government may advise differently.
  • LGBTQ+ legal status summarises published law and may not reflect enforcement, local attitudes or recent changes.
  • Exchange rates are indicative mid-market rates and are not what a bank or exchange bureau will offer.
  • Embassy details come from Google’s business listing and may be out of date or point to a consulate rather than the embassy. Check before you set off.
  • Emergency numbers are checked periodically but can change.

We work to keep the information accurate and each card shows when it was last checked, but we make no promise that any of it is complete, current or correct, and we accept no liability for decisions you make based on it.

Your licence to use the app

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own travel. You may not copy, modify, redistribute, sell, reverse-engineer or scrape the app or its data, or use it to build a competing service. The compiled app and the way its data is curated and presented are our property. Underlying facts and third-party data remain subject to their own licences, as listed in the app under Settings › Sources & licences.

Country Card Premium

Country Card Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly or yearly, that unlocks additional cards and removes ads. Prices are shown in the store before you buy. Payment is taken by Apple or Google through your store account, and the subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep Premium until the paid period ends. If a free trial is offered, its length is shown before you start it, and it turns into a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. If we withdraw a Premium feature or the app altogether, we will not charge you for renewals after that point.

The free version shows ads. The app also links out to third-party websites, such as the official travel advice its cards are drawn from. We don’t control those sites and we don’t endorse them.

Availability

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the app or the information in it at any time, and we may release updates that you need to install to keep using it. We don’t guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties and are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or its information, including missed flights, refused entry, fines, medical costs or any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all the statutory rights your local law gives you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the European Union you may also rely on the mandatory consumer protections and courts of the country where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
